The incident occurred on Wednesday when thousands of cricket fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in the city of Bengaluru to celebrate the victory of the local team RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) in the Indian Premier League, the world's most popular T20 cricket tournament.

Despite the stampede, a shortened congratulatory ceremony for the players was held in the stadium, with players like Virat Kohli and RCB captain Rajat Patidar taking the stage.

The provincial government confirmed that eleven people had died in the crush and that thirty-three had been admitted to city hospitals.

There were no immediate comments from the authorities. Stampedes are relatively common in India when large crowds gather.

In January, at least 30 people died when tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to bathe in a sacred river during the Maha Kumbh festival, the world's largest religious gathering.
