The United States government has brought back Kilmar Abrego García this Friday, the Salvadoran man who lived in Maryland and was irregularly deported by the administration, which ignored a judge's order prohibiting it and another order requiring them to do everything possible to have the man released from prison. However, he is being brought back to face trial after being accused of being a "human trafficker," with a warning that once convicted, as they assume will happen, he will return to the mega-jail of Nayib Bukele.
"García, an illegal immigrant from MS-13, was correctly deported to his home country, El Salvador, and has since been accused of particularly heinous crimes based on new evidence. He is currently being prosecuted. After a long prison sentence, he will return to his home in El Salvador," celebrated Stephen Miller, the White House's top advisor on these matters. "Welcome," mocked the deputy prosecutor handling the case, posting the charges on social media.
García's case has become a symbol for all parties involved. It is for organizations fighting against discrimination and Donald Trump's immigration policies, determined to fulfill his campaign promise of carrying out the largest deportation in the country's history, even if it means bypassing laws, disregarding mandatory hearings in each case, suspending habeas corpus, or defying court orders. It is for the government of Nayib Bukele, who has offered his services to Washington to incarcerate their prisoners and deportees in exchange for money. It is for the Democratic Party, which sent Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen to meet with him in San Salvador and has made it a cause. And certainly for the Executive branch, which is not willing to backtrack.
The country's Attorney General, Pam Bondi, held an impromptu press conference this Friday explaining that García is on his way back, but not to be released, as he was deported after being detained and expelled by the police for having tattoos, accusing him of being part of a gang, without any evidence of this having been revealed, at least until now. The man will be tried for "human trafficking" after a Grand Jury found sufficient evidence to proceed with prosecution. Bondi stated that once convicted, something she has no doubts about, he will be deported again and serve his sentence in the same prison in his home country.
"After months of ignoring our Constitution, it seems that the Trump Administration has finally complied with our demands for judicial orders and due process for Kilmar Abrego García. It has never been about the man; it is about his constitutional rights and the rights of all," noted Senator Van Hollen.
The controversy continues. It all started when the USA defied a federal judge's order. After his arrest, García's family hired a lawyer, and several associations intervened, stating that he not only was not part of a gang, a mara, but also that he was in danger if deported back to El Salvador. The judge ordered that he not be expelled, and when it was known that he was still en route to Central America, an emergency order was issued for the plane to turn around. The administration simply ignored the instructions, stating that it was too late, that when the order arrived, he was already out of national airspace, and later, that a judge has no authority to dictate the country's foreign policy.
The case escalated when Bukele visited Washington. When asked in the Oval Office why they did not return the man to American soil, both he and Trump coordinated a strategy. The United States argued that it could not force an independent country to do something against its will, an ironic statement, and Bukele said he would not release terrorists. The administration repeatedly claimed that it was impossible to bring him back. Until it was done.
"The formal indictment by the Department of Justice's Grand Jury against Abrego García proves that the deranged Democratic Party was wrong, and their stenographers in the fake media were once again deceived. Abrego García was never an innocent 'Maryland man'; he is an illegal immigrant, terrorist, gang member, and human trafficker who has spent his entire life abusing innocent people, especially women and the most vulnerable. Abrego García will now return to the United States to answer for his crimes and face the full weight of American justice. Democratic lawmakers, particularly Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, and all the so-called 'journalists' who defended this illegal abuser must apologize immediately to García's victims," stated White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt this Friday.
