The relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is like a merry-go-round. They started out as close allies, best friends. Tariffs drove them apart, and Musk decided to distance himself from the president and become his nemesis. But it seems that the former Trump advisor wants to try to defuse the situation, and on Wednesday he stated that he regrets some of his recent criticisms of the American president, as reported by Afp.
"I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far," Musk wrote on his social network X.
The owner of said social network and head of Tesla and SpaceX made a first gesture at the end of last week by deleting a post on X sent at the height of his dispute with Trump.
In it, he accused the Republican president of being involved in the Jeffrey Epstein case, an American financier accused of sexual crimes, who died by suicide in prison in 2019.
Similarly, Musk deleted other posts that he wrote or shared, including one calling for the removal of Donald Trump as President of the United States.
Elon Musk did not specify on Wednesday which criticisms he was referring to when he regretted some of them.
The South African tycoon supported and financed Trump's campaign, and until a few weeks ago was a presidential advisor in charge of streamlining the federal administration.
However, after leaving that position, both men engaged in a public dispute through social media messages, which targeted both personal and professional aspects.
The Tesla, X, and SpaceX CEO criticized Trump's budget bill, stating that it will significantly increase the country's deficit.
In turn, the Republican questioned Musk's mental health - "he's lost his mind," he said, and threatened to revoke subsidies and government contracts with his companies.
Elon Musk also accused the man whose campaign he financed with nearly 300 million dollars of "ingratitude."
