Doctors Without Borders denounced that the Israeli Army launched a missile on Tuesday against a building where one of the offices of this French NGO in the Gaza Strip is located, in a bombing where eight people died, reports EFE.
"This morning, around 11:00 a.m. (local time), a missile hit a building in the Gaza Strip where there was an office of Doctors Without Borders, clearly identified and registered with the Israeli military authorities," the organization said in a statement.
The organization's office was empty due to the holiday, and no team members were injured. However, in the bombing, according to Doctors Without Borders, four children, one teenager, and three adults who were on the top floor of the building, which was hit by the missile, died.
"This attack represents a serious violation of International Humanitarian Law, which protects both the civilian population and humanitarian organizations operating in conflict contexts," the organization denounced.
The location of the office, in Deir el Balah, in central Gaza, was known to the Israeli Army, which had declared the area as "protected from Israeli military attacks according to humanitarian coordination agreements."
"However, as has happened on previous occasions with Israeli attacks, the organization's team did not receive any prior warning to evacuate the building or take protective measures for possible occupants," Doctors Without Borders criticized.
This area had remained "relatively free from bombings and destruction in Gaza" as it housed numerous NGO offices, but now it accommodates displaced people from the north of the Strip and Jan Yunis in the south.
Following the attack by Gaza militants led by Hamas on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, Israel launched a military retaliation on Gaza that has claimed the lives of almost 55,000 people, according to the Health Ministry's count.
