Despite the world's attention being on the conflict between Israel and Iran, the escalation between Russia and Ukraine continues. Since Kiev's surgical operation attacking several bases in Russian territory, bombings have intensified between the two countries. This morning, Ukraine attempted to attack Moscow with several drones, which were shot down by Russian defenses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to call for increased pressure on Russia following the deadly Tuesday attack on Kiev, where a nine-story apartment building was hit. That night, Putin's troops launched over 440 drones and 32 missiles in what Zelensky described as one of the largest bombardments of the war, which began on February 24, 2022.
Despite the escalation of attacks, the rivals continue to exchange prisoners and the bodies of fallen soldiers. This Thursday, a new round took place, including the repatriation of Ukrainian prisoners of war suffering severe health problems caused by injuries and prolonged detention.
Roberta Metsola advocates for Europe's mediating role in current conflicts
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated on Friday in Poland that Europe's role as a mediator in the conflict in the Middle East is "more vital than ever" and emphasized that Brussels is pushing "for a ceasefire in Gaza, where human suffering remains heartbreaking," as reported by Efe.
Metsola emphatically stated that "the world understands that Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb," as it would pose "a threat not only to the region but to the entire world."
Metsola also addressed the war in Ukraine, "something for which no one was prepared," highlighting that "the Ukrainians are holding the line against the brutal and relentless hand of tyranny." According to Metsola, the Ukrainians' fight against Russia is the fight of Europeans.
