Donald Trump has directly threatened Spain with imposing a trade war and derailing its economy. From The Hague, in the press conference following the NATO summit, he stated that it is "terrible" that Spain is the only country unwilling to reach 5% of GDP on Defense, and he announced that he will impose additional tariffs on them.
"The economy is doing very well, but it could turn if something bad happens. We are negotiating a trade agreement with Spain and I will make them pay double," affirmed the President of the United States when asked about Pedro Sánchez's position.
"And I mean it. I like Spain. I know many people from Spain. It's a great place with great people. But Spain is the only country refusing to pay," continued Trump, emphasizing that it is "unfair."
"I will do it on my own, they will pay more," Trump continued when questioned again about Spain's stance, a country he had already criticized in the previous hours. Yesterday, from the presidential plane, Air Force One, he already stated that Spain is a "problem."
