North Korea could deploy more troops in support of Russia in the war in Ukraine over the next two months, as Seoul warns, following the news that the Russian security secretary and Kim Yong Un have agreed to send 5,000 construction workers and 1,000 sappers to the Kursk region.
Apparently, Pyongyang has already started the recruitment process for the new soldiers. According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea has contributed to the war in Ukraine with over 10 million artillery projectiles, missiles, and long-range weapons in exchange for technical assistance and economic cooperation from Moscow.
Meanwhile, attacks continue in Ukraine. In the latest one, a journalist from Chinese television was injured and had to be taken to the hospital with a bandaged head. In terms of military advances, it has been reported on Friday that Ukraine has halted Russia's advance in the Sumy region, as claimed by a commander.
Ukraine Accuses Russia of Launching 363 Drones and Eight Missiles Overnight
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Friday that it shot down 359 of the 363 drones and six of the eight missiles launched by Russia in a nighttime attack. The main target of the attack was the small western city of Starokostiantyniv, home to a major airbase and a frequent target of Russian airstrikes. The air force reported three direct hits and eight areas affected by debris falling overnight, without specifying the location of the damage in a nationwide attack or whether the airbase was hit.
US Ambassador in Moscow Ends Her Mission
The United States Embassy in Moscow announced the end of the mission of its head Lynne Tracy, appointed under the administration of former Democratic President Joe Biden.
With Donald Trump's return to the White House, the United States changed its strategy and approached Russia after years of high tension over the conflict with Ukraine.
"Lynne Tracy leaves Moscow," the US Embassy in Russia stated on Telegram, expressing "gratitude" to the diplomat for her "faithful service to the American people" and her "deep respect for Russian culture."
