When one enters an unfamiliar house, at first, they are somewhat reserved. They ask for permission to sit and even to use the bathroom. A respect, an education. This is how the bulls from Pamplona have arrived, from Álvaro Núñez's debut ranch at San Fermín. A novelty, which, however, has a trick, as these animals are related to those from Núñez del Cuvillo, already classics in the San Fermín festivities.
Respect, of course, in the first stretch of the run, at the beginning of the ascent of Santo Domingo, for a good part of this stretch, letting the oxen lead the herd, as they are the hosts and know the route. Even one of the specimens lagged behind slightly and sprinted to rejoin the group. All very formal.
But as time passes in an unfamiliar house, one becomes more familiar. And the bulls from Álvaro Núñez haven't just taken a beer from the fridge without asking, they have put their feet on the table.
Already at the Ayuntamiento and Mercaderes, one of the Núñez bulls took the lead and accelerated, threatening the runners who were approaching the Estafeta curve. From that point on, the party began: at the fencing protecting the curve, the first bull knocked down a runner and the jabonero behind him almost unintentionally, slipping due to the momentum of the race. At the exit of the curve, another bull fixated on a runner, completely crossed over and delivered a powerful blow. Right after, with its right horn, it threaded through the navy blue shirt of another runner and dramatically dragged him for several meters, without goring him. In the middle of the herd, another experienced runner found himself completely sandwiched between bulls and oxen, and ended up falling.
From there, the herd began to separate, leaving many gaps for the runners, a complete mass on the Estafeta straight. But nothing was easy: several small piles, other runners knocked down... It seemed like a war, with one of the Núñez bulls behind threatening to repeat the scene of the loose bull on the straight that was seen the day before with those from Cebada Gago.
In the Telefónica stretch, in addition to the usual difficulties on the right side of the run, one of the bulls fell, remaining lying down for several seconds unable to recover. That was the last of the specimens to enter the bullring, one of the darkest chestnuts, only two minutes and 20 seconds after starting the run. The injury report mentions a goring in the Javier stretch.
Bulls from Álvaro Núñez for the bullfighters Morante de la Puebla, Roca Rey, and Tomás Rufo.
