Approximately 419,000 customers' personal information from the local subsidiary of Louis Vuitton in Hong Kong has been compromised, according to an investigation by Hong Kong authorities, as reported by Efe.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in Hong Kong, the company reported the incident on July 17, after its headquarters in France detected suspicious activity on its computer system on June 13.

Subsequently, on July 2, the company discovered that the information of its customers in Hong Kong had been affected.

Preliminary information gathered so far indicates that the compromised personal data includes names, passport numbers, dates of birth, physical and email addresses, phone numbers, purchase history, and product preferences, according to the agency of the former British colony, a popular luxury shopping destination due to its low taxes.

The Office noted that its investigation is following established procedures, including those related to the possible delay in reporting the incident by the luxury goods company.

The agency reminded companies that in the event of such incidents, they must report to the authorities to take appropriate measures and mitigate potential consequences for both organizations and affected individuals.

It also reiterated the importance of promptly informing affected parties of any data leaks that could pose risks to their privacy.
