A 14-year-old teenager, identified as Trevor Lee, has murdered his parents with a firearm in their home in Middleburg, northern Florida (United States). The young man, after committing the crime, called the emergency number to confess the event and surrender to the authorities.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office reported that Trevor Lee shot his parents, David Lee (44 years old) and Brandi Smith (45 years old) and then "told the operators on the phone that he had killed his parents inside his house on Silver Point Street." The young man added that he would be "waiting in the parking lot of a nearby church to be taken into custody."

The agents found the bullet-ridden bodies and, although the investigation is ongoing, authorities indicate that it was a "isolated and domestic incident" that does not pose "a threat to the community."

This tragic event occurs in a context of increasing youth gun violence in the United States. According to a report by the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ), homicides committed by minors increased by 65% between 2016 and 2022, reaching a total of 521 in the last year. Additionally, the organization The Sentencing Project estimates that over a million children and teenagers between 12 and 17 years old, approximately 5% of that age group, possess a firearm.
