Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay has passed away after failing to recover from the attack he suffered a few months ago.

The presidential pre-candidate was shot on June 7, 2025 and had undergone neurosurgical surgery after being diagnosed with an "acute intracerebral bleeding" caused by a gunshot wound.

The 39-year-old politician "came out of surgery and his condition is extremely critical, characterized by persistent brain edema and difficult-to-control intracerebral bleeding," the medical center stated.

Uribe Turbay had built a brilliant political career, even becoming the most voted senator in the country in the 2022 elections. In 2016, at just 30 years old, he served as the Secretary of Government for the capital's mayor, Enrique Peñalosa.
