Hunger and malnutrition claim more child victims in the Gaza Strip: the number of children who have died from these causes since the start of the Israeli offensive has now reached 100 this Sunday, according to the latest count published by the Ministry of Health in the Palestinian enclave.
This means that almost half of the total deaths from malnutrition, which are now 210, have been children during these almost two years of the Israeli offensive against Gaza, as reported by the Efe news agency.
Hospitals in the Strip reported five deaths from starvation yesterday, including two children, according to the Health statement. The figures for the month of July show that deaths in Gaza due to lack of food increased after months of blockade on the entry of humanitarian aid by Israel, which controls all access points to the territory.
Between March 2 and May 19, the blockade was total, while the flow of aid is now very limited and insufficient, as denounced by humanitarian organizations.
Israel stated this Sunday that in the last week (from August 3 to 9), 1,900 trucks of humanitarian aid "were collected and distributed" in Gaza, which represents an average of 270 trucks per day compared to the 600 needed (according to humanitarian organizations) to meet the needs of the people in Gaza.
In the latest update of figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza last Friday, as reported by Efe, Gazan hospitals recorded 38 deaths from Israeli attacks on the territory, of which at least 21 died while trying to receive food and humanitarian aid in the devastated enclave. During those dates, it was estimated that since Israel launched its offensive, 61,369 people have died and over 150,000 have been injured in the territory, according to the health authorities' records.
