The Ukrainian Air Force has announced that Russia has attacked early Thursday with 574 drones and 40 missiles targets across the country, including the western part, at a time when Western allies are discussing potential security guarantees for Ukraine in the context of future peace talks with Russia.
One of these Russian attacks, carried out on the western city of Lviv, has left one fatality and 15 injured, as announced by the Ukrainian governor of the locality. Also today, a Russian attack was recorded against a "completely civilian facility, unrelated to defense or the military," as stated by the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha. It was an American electronics manufacturer, established in the western part of Ukraine.
Aircraft from the Polish Air Forces and allied aviation have been mobilized on Thursday to defend the airspace against Russian attacks on Ukraine. This was reported by the Polish Armed Forces during the early hours, subsequently stating that the mobilization was repeated as no "violation of airspace" was found.
Early Thursday morning, an interview was broadcast on the Fox channel with the Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance. In his statements, he stated that "Europe must assume the majority of the burden" to ensure security in Ukraine, as "it is their continent."
Ukraine reported on Wednesday three attacks in the regions of Sumy, Donetsk, and Odesa, carried out by 60 drones and a Russian ballistic missile. Three deaths were also recorded in a Russian artillery attack on the city of Kostiantynivka, located in the east, following the announcement by the U.S. President, Donald Trump, that no U.S. soldiers would be sent to defend Ukraine against Russia.
Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the main European leaders held a meeting last Monday at the White House with the goal of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Responding to journalists' questions, Trump did not rule out sending U.S. soldiers to participate in a European-led effort to defend Ukraine as part of the security guarantees sought by Zelensky.
Putin, as part of any possible agreement to withdraw his forces from Ukraine, is seeking the withdrawal of Ukrainian soldiers from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the recognition of Crimea as Russian territory.
