"Today music is dressed in mourning, and the heart hurts even more when saying goodbye to a true friend." Full of pain, veteran DJ Jordi Carreras announced the death of his colleague Alex Kentucky, a reference in deep house, in Ibiza due to reasons that have not been confirmed yet. "You leave us an immense musical legacy, full of sensitivity and depth, which will continue to resonate in each of us. Those of us who shared friendship and work with you know that your presence will be irreplaceable."
Originally from the Canary Islands, Alex Kentucky, DJ and producer, was a resident in Ibiza, and his sessions earned him recognitions such as Best National DJ and Best Deep House DJ. He was known as the "Master of Deep". "Alex has been one of the fundamental pillars of music on the island," describes the specialized magazine Fiesta Bullshit in its obituary. "Alex Kentucky earned the respect and affection of colleagues and the public thanks to his approachability, authenticity, and ability to convey emotions through music. His legacy will continue to live on in each of his projects and in the memory of those who knew him."
The local newspaper Nou Diari remembers him as "a vinyl enthusiast since he was a child". His vocation started early, as he DJed as a teenager at friends' parties. He turned it into his profession in college and moved to Ibiza, where he could be heard at clubs like Privilege, Space, PK2, Nassau Beach Club, or Nine Ibiza.
As the artistic director of Adult Music Records, he collaborated with Ibiza Global Radio, where he formed friendships with numerous figures in the Ibiza scene. "Your essence will remain eternal in music and in our memories," concludes Jordi Carreras in his tribute text.
Second DJ to die this summer in Ibiza
The death of Alex Kentucky comes just a month after that of the well-known DJ Godzi when the Civil Guard subdued him because he was experiencing hallucinations and threatening a neighbor with a knife, showing signs of being under the influence of some type of narcotic substance.
The Civil Guard defends its methods and dissociates its actions from the death of DJ Godzi. However, according to information obtained by EL MUNDO, the victim's family is considering filing a complaint against the Civil Guard, although they have requested that, beyond the standard autopsy, a series of medical tests be performed on the body before taking that step.
