A massive Russian attack with missiles and drones has left at least 15 dead, including four minors, and dozens injured this morning in Kiev, according to the latest update provided by Ukrainian authorities. Volodymyr Zelenski described the massacre as a "horrendous and deliberate killing of civilians."
"Russia prefers ballistic missiles over negotiation tables. It chooses to keep killing instead of ending the war. [...] And it is definitely time to impose new and tough sanctions against Russia for everything it's doing," the Ukrainian president urged on his social media.
Among the dead are four children aged between 2 and 17, stated Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev city administration. The numbers may increase as rescue teams continue to work to extract people trapped under the rubble. Meanwhile, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that around 50 people were injured, with 40 hospitalized.
The attacks damaged residential buildings in various districts of the capital, as well as a shopping center, a nursery, and the offices of the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda.
The European Union delegation in Kiev was also "deliberately" damaged in the attack, as denounced by the President of the European Council, António Costa, who expressed being "horrified" by the new wave of attacks and assured that "the EU will not be intimidated."
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union will maintain "maximum pressure" on Russia with more sanctions following the Russian missile attack that affected the EU delegation in Kiev.
