The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Wednesday that the hostages in Israel will be released next Monday and that "Gaza will be rebuilt".
Trump, during an interview on Fox News, stated that, according to the agreements reached, the Israeli hostages will be released at the beginning of next week.
The president also mentioned that the United States "will be involved" in the process of rebuilding Gaza, following the agreement reached.
During his phone call, the Republican president argued that Israel "cannot fight against the world" and that "they understand it", referring to the first phase of the peace plan reached on Wednesday, which includes the release of Israeli and Palestinian hostages, as well as the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
"The world is united to achieve this agreement", emphasized Trump, adding that even Iran "blessed" the initiative.
The announcement came shortly after Trump officially confirmed the signing of a first phase of the peace agreement for Gaza, developed with the support of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States, and endorsed by the United Nations (UN).
The agreement was reached shortly after the second anniversary of the unprecedented Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023. Of the 251 people kidnapped that day, 47 are still in Gaza, 25 of whom have died, according to the Israeli army.
Trump's peace plan contains 20 points that foresee, in addition to a ceasefire, the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the entry of humanitarian aid into the devastated Palestinian territory.
The Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, welcomed the announcement of the agreement and urged the parties to "fully respect" its terms.
