Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world's largest cloud server network, has been experiencing technical problems since 9:00 a.m. on Monday, causing all kinds of incidents and outages on social media, online gaming platforms, computer systems, websites, and applications.
Two hours after the incident was first reported, AWS had recorded a total of 58 services on its platform affected, including one that was completely interrupted, Amazon DynamoDB, a database.
According to details provided by AWS on its website, it is precisely this Amazon service and the process it uses to communicate with a US data center that appears to be at the root of the problem.
Likewise, Amazon's own services such as its marketplace and Alexa, the Perplexity AI platform, Snapchat, Zoom, and Fortnite were also affected for hours.
The company has reported several incidents related to its data centers in the United States, but said they are already being resolved. "We are seeing significant signs of recovery," the company said in its alert center at 11:20 a.m. Amazon will update the network status again in an hour.
According to incidents reported by the Downdetector portal, at around 11:00 a.m., thousands of incidents were reported relating to AWS and its multiple services, as well as thousands of social networks, websites, online gaming platforms, and mobile applications around the world.
Ticketmaster is also among the companies affected. The online ticket sales company, owned by Live Nation, has had to delay ticket sales for La Oreja de Van Gogh's tour and Amaia Montero's eagerly awaited return to the band until 4 p.m.
