Promising an "immersive and innovative" experience, and judging by the details that are being revealed, Rosalía's new stage will undoubtedly achieve its goal. On Monday night, the Catalan superstar brought Madrid's Gran Vía to a standstill in the announcement of her new album, Lux, which will be released on November 7th.
Hundreds of fans accompanied Rosalía in the central Plaza de Callao for the announcement of her new stage. Although not a single single from the project has been released yet, Rosalía shared a musical score on her social media last week, which will be the melody of one of her songs. In recent days, her followers have been sharing different videos of themselves playing those notes on their instruments. It has also been revealed that one of the songs included in Lux, specifically a ballad, will serve as the soundtrack for the upcoming movie Hamnet, based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel and directed by Chloé Zhao, the Oscar winner for Nomadland.
One of the comments that her fan community had been spreading in recent weeks is that Rosalía intended to delve into a religious theme, which had already been present in other songs from her previous album, Motomami, such as Hentai or G3 N15. The image of her dressed in a white nun's coif and a dress - almost like a straitjacket - in the same color only reinforces that perception.
Rosalía's new stage will indeed address themes such as feminine mysticism, transformation, and spirituality. As the executive producer, in this album, Rosalía draws "a broad emotional arc of feminine mysticism, transformation, and transcendence, moving between intimacy and operatic scale to create a radiant world where sound, language, and culture merge into one," announces the statement presenting Lux.
Lux will be Rosalía's fourth studio album after the success of Motomami and her international tour. The Catalan singer has barely released a couple of collaborations in the last three years - New Woman with Lisa, Omega with Ralphie Choo, and Normal with Carolina Durante - and since September of last year, there has been no trace of music or anything she was working on. Until a few weeks ago when some posts on her Instagram account hinted that her new project was near.
Last week, Rosalía participated in the Ràdio Noia podcast on Radio Primavera Sound, where she stated that this fourth album is the first one she approaches "without fear of failure." Although, especially her last two works, El mal querer and Motomami, have already established her as a world-class star. The former served to position the Catalan artist as one of the leading figures in our country. The latter marked her consolidation as a global star, capable of making an impact with her music worldwide.
This new album will be structured into four movements, including three exclusive tracks on its CD and vinyl editions to invite listeners to experience the album in its most immersive form. The Catalan superstar has already made the tracklist of Lux public.
