One person has died and at least 40 others have been injured early on Sunday morning when a metal structure collapsed in a municipality in São Paulo (Brazil). The accident occurred due to severe weather conditions coinciding with university parties, as reported by local media and Efe news agency.

The victim is a 47-year-old man who died from a head injury caused by being hit by a tree branch. Civil Defense, cited by the G1 news outlet, reports that only three people remain hospitalized this Sunday, while the rest suffered minor injuries and have already been discharged.

The accident happened around 2:00 a.m. at the Aeropark Clube de Voo Desportivo area in the municipality of Regente Feijó, in the state of São Paulo, where medical students were celebrating an event when the winds reached 95 kilometers per hour.

The student committee in charge of the celebration has expressed being "deeply shocked by what happened" through a message shared on their social media. "At this moment, our priority is to provide all our support and solidarity to the families and friends of the victims," they stated.
