However, the president tried to calm fears about a possible imminent military conflict against the South American country, stating on CBS's "60 Minutes" program that he doubted the United States would go to war with Venezuela.

Trump made these statements after a series of strong comments about Venezuela while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One. The president harshly criticized the nation, alleging that Venezuela has sent to the U.S. "thousands and thousands, hundreds of thousands of people from prisons, mental institutions, drug addicts."

Trump's remarks come a day after the U.S. military carried out another lethal attack against alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea. Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, announced on Saturday that three people died in the operation. Hegseth indicated that the targeted vessel was operated by a terrorist organization designated by the U.S., although he did not mention which group was the target.

Since early September, this is at least the fifteenth such attack carried out by the U.S. military in the Caribbean region or the eastern Pacific.
