The passage of Typhoon Kalmaegi has left more than 90 fatalities in Philippines this Wednesday. In Cebu, one of the most affected cities, authorities have already recovered 35 bodies in a flooded coastal town. Previously, the National Civil Defense Office had confirmed 17 deaths in other regions, bringing the total death toll to 93.

"The major cities were the most affected by the floods, especially the more urbanized areas," confirmed the Deputy Director of Civil Defense in statements to a local media outlet.

Before the typhoon made landfall, the vicinity of Cebu City recorded 183 millimeters of rain, a figure that significantly exceeds the monthly average of 131 millimeters, as indicated by climate expert Charmagne Varilla.

Meanwhile, the provincial governor, Pamela Baricuatro, described the situation as "unprecedented". "We were expecting dangerous winds, but it is the water that is really putting people in danger," she stated.
