The former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, revealed in the newspaper 'The Times' that he had prostate cancer and underwent treatment to combat it. The 59-year-old former leader shared that his wife insisted he go for a check-up after they both heard an interview on the radio with businessman Nick Jones, who was campaigning for more men to undergo tests after being diagnosed himself.
During the tests he underwent, the disease was discovered, and doctors were able to eradicate it through a focal therapy, involving administering electric pulses to destroy cancer cells. Therefore, he joins "the long list of people calling for a selective screening program."
"Men feel embarrassed to talk about something like the prostate because it is so intimately related to sexual health and everything else. I thought, well, this has happened to you, and you should talk about it," explains the Tory in the interview with 'The Times'.
Furthermore, the former politician has used his platform to urge men to be more actively involved in screening for this disease. "It's something we should think about, talk about, and, if necessary, act upon," he urged.
