This was reported on Friday by the North Korean state media, amidst increasing tensions on the Korean peninsula.
According to the official KCNA news agency, Kim visited several ammunition factories accompanied by high-ranking regime officials, where he urged to "continue expanding the overall production capacity" to meet the needs of the armed forces. The leader emphasized that the missile and projectile sector is crucial to strengthen the country's military deterrence.
In recent years, Pyongyang has intensified missile tests, a strategy that, according to international analysts, aims to improve attack precision, challenge the United States and South Korea, and test weaponry for potential export to Russia.
The visit to the factories was revealed a day after state media reported Kim's tour of a nuclear-powered submarine plant, where he pledged to counter what he perceives as threats from Seoul and discussed the development of new secret underwater weapons.
The announcement comes ahead of the first party congress in five years of the Workers' Party, scheduled for early 2026, where the regime's military and economic plans for the next five years will be discussed.
