The United States military operation in Venezuela to capture Nicolás Maduro has also influenced the Ukraine war. Many countries consider the US unauthorized to comment and criticize Russia after committing an aggression against the sovereignty of a country, although the Trump Administration considers its incursion in Venezuela as a law enforcement operation, claiming that capturing Maduro was legal.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not commented on the military operation to overthrow Maduro, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued statements condemning the "aggression" by the United States.
However, disturbing reports have emerged at this moment in history, indicating that Russian officials suggested in 2019 that the Kremlin would be willing to withdraw its support for Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela in exchange for freedom of action in Ukraine, according to Fiona Hill, an advisor to then-US President Donald Trump. This demonstrates how the two superpowers manipulate the destinies of economically inferior countries at their whim.
Starmer States that Deployment of British Troops in Ukraine Must Be Approved by Parliament
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated on Wednesday that any deployment of UK forces under a declaration signed with France and Ukraine will be subject to a parliamentary vote.
Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Zelenski signed a declaration of intent on Tuesday that contemplates the deployment of forces in case of a peace agreement.
"I will keep the House informed as the situation evolves, and if troops are deployed under the signed declaration, I would put that matter to a vote in the House," Starmer told Parliament.
Cyprus Compares Russian Invasion of Ukraine to Turkish Occupation of Northern Cyprus
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides expressed support for Ukraine after meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenski and compared the Russian invasion to the occupation of the northern part of the Mediterranean island by Turkish troops since 1974, according to Efe.
"As a country still living with the consequences of an illegal invasion and ongoing military occupation, we understand perfectly what is at stake," said the President of Cyprus, a country currently holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Christodoulides referred to the invasion and occupation by Turkey of the northern third of the island in response to a coup by the Greek Cypriot leadership that aimed to annex Cyprus to Greece.
