Greenland is at the center of a geopolitical storm as the President of the United States, Donald Trump, insists on wanting to own the island, while residents of its capital, Nuuk, maintain that it is not for sale. Trump has expressed his desire to control Greenland at any cost, and the White House has not ruled out taking the territory by force.

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, will meet with the Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and his Greenlandic counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, in Washington this Wednesday afternoon to discuss the Arctic island, which is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO ally of the United States.

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, stated at a press conference in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, yesterday Tuesday that, "if we have to choose between the United States and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose NATO. We choose the Kingdom of Denmark. We choose the European Union."

Yolanda Díaz criticizes the "passivity" of the EU and NATO towards Trump's "threats" and demands Feijóo to take a stance

The Second Vice President of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, has criticized the European Union for its passive attitude towards the "threat" posed by the foreign policy of the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump. She has also described the position of NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, regarding the Greenland issue as "absurd."

She has also accused the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñéz Feijóo, of being indecisive on foreign affairs and has challenged him to define whether he "will stand with Trump" or show support for the Government during the meeting he will have on Monday with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.

The Minister of Labor has emphasized that she will follow with great interest the meeting between the President and Feijóo to see if the opposition leader speaks out on relevant issues such as Trump's actions, Venezuela, the war in Ukraine, or Greenland.

Denmark to strengthen its military presence in Greenland

Denmark will strengthen its military presence in Greenland and is in "continuous dialogue" with NATO to increase the organization's activities in the Arctic, the Danish Defense Minister told AFP on Wednesday.

"We will continue to strengthen our military presence in Greenland, but we will also insist within NATO for more exercises and a greater NATO presence in the Arctic," wrote Troels Lund Poulsen in a statement to AFP.

The statements come hours before a meeting between high-ranking officials from Greenland, Denmark, and the United States at the White House regarding the future of this autonomous territory that Donald Trump wants to take from Copenhagen.
