The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the individual, identified as a Venezuelan resident with irregular immigration status, attempted to evade authorities and was apprehended after a brief chase.

According to the DHS, when trying to detain him, the man resisted and assaulted the officer. During the struggle, two individuals emerged from a nearby apartment and attacked the agent with a snow shovel and a broom handle, leading the officer to shoot "in self-defense," injuring the suspect in the leg.

The three alleged attackers were arrested, and both the injured man and the agent were hospitalized, authorities stated. The shooting took place amidst high tension in Minneapolis following the death of Renee Good, a woman shot by another immigration agent weeks earlier, sparking protests and frequent clashes between protesters and federal forces.

Federal agents and local police used tear gas to disperse the crowd gathered near the scene of the incident. Local authorities have called for calm and reiterated demands for the withdrawal of federal agents from the state.
