Javier Milei, President of Argentina, announced on Saturday the invitation from his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, to join the Executive Board for Peace for Gaza (Board of Peace). Also invited to join on Saturday were the leaders of Egypt, Turkey, Canada, and Paraguay.

President Milei publicly thanked the gesture through his X account: "It is an honor for me to have received tonight the invitation for Argentina to join, as a founding member, the Board of Peace, an organization created by President Trump to promote lasting peace in conflict-affected regions, starting with the Gaza Strip," the message on social media reads.

The far-right leader, closely aligned with Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, added: "Argentina will always stand with countries that fight terrorism head-on, defend life and property, and promote peace and freedom. It is an honor for us to accompany them in such a responsibility."

Milei's post includes images of the handwritten letter signed by the American president inviting him to join the Executive Board as a "founder member."

Yesterday, the White House announced that the Executive Board will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio; U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff; Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner; former Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Nickolay Mladenov; and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, has also been invited by the U.S. to be a "founding member," as reported by the presidential office in Ankara. Erdogan, a declared ally of Hamas and one of the most critical voices in the Middle East against Netanyahu's government, has not yet commented on the invitation.

Meanwhile, Egypt is "examining" the U.S. invitation to Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, President of Egypt, to join as an "advisor," according to AFP. The same agency has been informed by government sources that the also-invited Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, will accept joining the "peace council" as an "advisor."

Additionally, Paraguayan President Santiago Peña was invited and stated that he assumes the responsibility "with honor."

Milei's connection with Trump began before the American's second presidential term and grew during 2025, when the U.S. Treasury supported Argentina amid financial difficulties, in addition to Trump's verbal support for Milei a few weeks before the midterm elections.

The announcement of the Executive Board's composition came after the White House unveiled the second phase of Trump's peace plan for Gaza, which involves the formation of a technocratic Government in the Strip and the disarmament of Hamas, as reported by Efe. This second phase includes establishing a new government in the enclave, composed of Palestinians not affiliated with Hamas, the Islamist paramilitary group that must be disarmed according to U.S. stipulations.

Blair and the other board members will execute the plans of the commission chaired by Trump himself, overseeing the implementation of the plan for the enclave and supervising the new Gaza government.
