Russia continues to punish Ukraine with the most powerful weapon in a freezing winter, the cold. A new massive Russian attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure left part of Kiev without electricity, water, and heating on Tuesday, with temperatures in the city around 12 degrees below zero. A total of 5,635 residential blocks in Kiev are without heating

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had repeatedly warned in recent days that the Russians were preparing another massive attack on Ukraine's energy system to exacerbate the crisis caused by previous bombings amid extreme cold.

Ukraine received a significant shipment of anti-aircraft missiles last week to strengthen its defenses and better counter Russian attacks.

Trump forgets about Ukraine as 'General Winter' freezes the Russian offensive

U.S. President Donald Trump seems to have forgotten about Ukraine in 2026, focusing more on Venezuela, Iran, and most recently, Greenland, reports Efe.

During the first year of his second term, he managed to get both sides - Russians and Ukrainians - back to the negotiating table, but the reality is that peace is both closer and farther than ever. Not in 24 hours, as he promised during the electoral campaign, nor in 12 months.

That is the main problem with the peace process in Ukraine. The fighting continues, casualties are increasing, pressures and ultimatums are not yielding results, and Trump is losing interest. It is well known that he gets bored when he doesn't get his way.

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant regains "backup" electrical connection

The Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), occupied and controlled by Russia, once again has a "backup" electrical connection after a new local and temporary ceasefire allowed for its repair, reports Efe.

This was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a statement posted on social media late on Monday.

The note specifies that "the 330 kV Ferosplavna-1 backup line was reconnected to the ZNPP nuclear plant" at 19:17 local time last Monday, "after a successful repair carried out by Ukrainian technicians within the framework of a ceasefire negotiated by the IAEA."

Russia attacked Ukraine with over 300 drones and missiles

Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with over 300 drones and a "significant" number of ballistic and cruise missiles, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Tuesday, as reported by Reuters.

Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine had received a replenishment of air defense missiles just a day before, which, he said, helped strengthen their defenses, but added that there is an urgent need for more supplies.

"Partners must not fail to deliver on this: air defense missiles are real protection for human life," he stated in a post on X.

Macron proposes a G7 summit in Paris with Russians, Ukrainians, and Danes to Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed to his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, to hold a G7 summit in Paris next Thursday, where he could invite Russia, as they are about to mark four years since their war in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainians and Danes, confirmed sources from the Elysee Palace today.

"That private message is real," said sources close to the French president to EFE, confirming the message that Trump revealed on his Truth Social social network, in which the French president invites the U.S. president to stop in Paris after attending the Davos Forum to address disagreements on Ukraine, Greenland, and Syria.

A total of 5,635 residential blocks in Kiev are without heating

A total of 5,635 residential blocks in Kiev are without heating after Russia attacked the Ukrainian energy system with missiles and drones again this morning, as reported on Telegram by the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, according to Efe.

According to the mayor, 80% of these buildings have lost heating again after their supply was restored following the massive Russian attack last Friday, which left a large part of Kiev without energy supply for almost three days.

Klitschko also explained that the part of Kiev on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River is also without water supply due to the Russian attack this morning.
