Three people, including the suspect, have died during a shooting at a youth hockey game in Rhode Island, according to authorities.
Other three victims are hospitalizedin critical condition, stated Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves in remarks to reporters, as reported by Ap.
"Apparently, it was a targeted event, possibly a family dispute," said Goncalves, who did not disclose details about the suspect or the ages of the deceased, although she highlighted that apparently the two victims were adults.
Authorities were still reconstructing what happened and interviewing witnesses, she said. The shooting took place at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, a few kilometers from Providence.
Outside the arena, families in tears and youth hockey players still in their uniforms could be seen embracing before boarding a bus to leave the area. Roads to the arena were closed as a strong police presence was maintained and helicopters flew overhead.
Pawtucket is located just north of Providence and near the state line with Massachusetts. With just under 80,000 residents, Pawtucket was recently known as the headquarters of Hasbro.
