Three people, including the suspect, have died during a shooting at a youth hockey game in Rhode Island, as reported by authorities.
Three victims are hospitalizedin critical condition, stated Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves in remarks to reporters, as reported by Ap.
"Apparently, it was a targeted event, which could be a family dispute," said Goncalves, who did not disclose details about the suspect or the ages of the deceased, although she highlighted that apparently the two victims were adults.
Authorities were still trying to reconstruct what happened and speak with witnesses, she said. The shooting took place at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, a few kilometers from Providence.
Outside the arena, families could be seen in tears and youth hockey players still in their uniforms embracing each other before boarding a bus to leave the area. Roads to the arena were closed while a strong police presence was maintained and helicopters flew overhead.
Pawtucket is located just north of Providence and near the state line with Massachusetts. With just under 80,000 residents, Pawtucket was recently known as the headquarters of Hasbro.
