Nomad Frutas Selectas in Barcelona and Hola Coffee Lagasca in Madrid have been ranked among the top 20 best coffee shops in the world according to the second edition of The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops, the first ranking that acknowledges global excellence in specialty cafés, revealed during the recently held CoffeeFest Madrid 2026. The publication of this list has become one of the most anticipated events of this international fair held annually at IFEMA Madrid, bringing together professionals, baristas, and enthusiasts around coffee through tastings, workshops, competitions, and cuppings.

In this edition, the top spot is held by the café Onyx Coffee Lab, based in Arkansas (USA), recognized as the best in the world for its commitment to specialty coffee, technical innovation, and strong connection with the coffee community. Under the motto Never Settle for Good Enough, this philosophy permeates its entire process, from coffee selection at the source to meticulous control of each roast, using solar energy and a strong focus on continuous training for baristas and staff.

In second place is Tim Wendelboe (Oslo, Norway), a global reference in specialty coffee led by the renowned barista and roaster of the same name, and in third place is Alquimia Coffee (Santa Ana, El Salvador), a micro-roastery working directly at the source, promoting Salvadoran coffee with a contemporary and deeply rooted proposal.

Four Spanish Cafés in the Top 100

Spain once again positions itself strongly in the global ranking with four selected cafés. The aforementioned Nomad Frutas Selectas (Carrer de Pujades, 95, Barcelona) and Hola Coffee Lagasca (Lagasca, 42, Madrid) have secured the 16th and 19th positions, respectively. The Catalan project is led by Jordi Mestre, one of Spain's most internationally recognized baristas and founder of Nomad Coffee, which has developed a specialty coffee proposal with a strong commitment to quality, in-house roasting, and sustainability.

On the other hand, the Madrid-based brand founded in 2016 by Pablo Caballero and Nolo Botana offers coffee from its own roastery in two minimally designed yet colorful locations. Their selection of filter coffees and signature drinks showcases a high level of innovation and quality. They also have an academy, Hola Coffee, for spreading coffee culture through training and their podcast.

Two other Spanish brands are among the top 100 best coffee shops in the world: D·Origen Coffee Roasters (Carrer de Casp, 48, Barcelona), located on the ground floor of Casa Calvet, a building designed and built by Gaudí, ranks 83rd, while Kima Coffee (Carretería, 67, Málaga) holds the 93rd spot.

Overall, over 15,000 coffee shops worldwide were analyzed to compile this ranking, led by the United States with nine selected cafés, followed by Australia (7), Peru (5), and Spain, Honduras, and Taiwan with four each. The ranking is based on a mixed system combining the evaluation of over 800 professional judges with industry reference profiles from all continents and popular votes, which in this edition exceeded 350,000 received votes. Evaluation criteria include coffee quality, barista experience and technique, customer service, innovation capacity, space design and ambiance, sustainability practices, gastronomic offerings quality, and service consistency.
