The incident occurred near Cliff House, a well-known landmark located above Ocean Beach, in the northwest of San Francisco. The area is very popular among tourists and residents, especially on the trails near Lands End, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

According to authorities, the woman —whose identity has not been disclosed— fell off the cliff and became immobilized among the rocks. She was wearing a bikini and was barefoot, although the circumstances of the accident have not been clarified.

Images captured by television helicopters showed the dramatic rescue: a firefighter descended on rappel to reach her, secured her with ropes and a helmet, and carefully evacuated her to the top of the cliff. Minutes later, the victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The Cliff House building, owned by the National Park Service, has been closed since the pandemic.
