In his homily, he emphasized that "no one can use God to legitimize war" and asked for prayers for the victims of current conflicts. The pontiff referred to the international context marked by the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran, as well as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, denouncing the use of religious arguments by different leaders to support military actions.

During the celebration, Leo XIV had a special remembrance for the Christians in the Middle East, who, he pointed out, suffer the consequences of violence and in many cases cannot fully celebrate these sacred dates.

His words come after the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem denounced restrictions on access to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre during Holy Week. The Pope also called on the international community to promote reconciliation and not to forget the suffering of millions of people. Additionally, he confirmed that he will preside over the main liturgical events of Holy Week in the Vatican, reviving traditions such as the Holy Thursday foot washing.
