According to military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the restrictions imposed by Iran do not affect its "brotherly country," but are strictly maintained for nations considered enemies. This blockade has had a devastating impact on the global economy, as around 20% of the global oil supply usually passes through this strategic point.
The move coincides with an increase in diplomatic aggression. US President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to fully unblock the strait, threatening to unleash "hell" on the region if an agreement is not reached. In response, the Iranian military command has labeled these warnings as "stupid and powerless," retaliating with the launch of drones and missiles against Israel and Kuwait, whose air forces have recently been forced to intercept the attacks.
The situation on the ground is critical, with a race to locate a missing American pilot after the downing of an F-15 fighter jet in Iranian territory. Tensions have also shifted to the nuclear realm following a bombing near the Bushehr nuclear plant, which resulted in the death of a guard and the evacuation of Russian workers. The Iranian Foreign Minister has warned that the persistence of these attacks could lead to a radiological catastrophe in the neighboring capitals of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Furthermore, the clashes have targeted civilian infrastructure. Attacks on petrochemical plants have left five dead, while in southern Lebanon, the Israeli offensive against Hezbollah has caused civilian casualties, including the deaths of two girls. The instability is reflected in the destruction of border commercial terminals, exacerbating a crisis that seems far from a diplomatic truce.
