The suspect, Daniel Moreno-Gama, was caught on security cameras throwing a Molotov cocktail in front of the businessman's residence, according to images released by the FBI.

Authorities indicate that the detainee was carrying a "anti-AI" content document, expressing views against artificial intelligence and direct threats against Altman. According to federal prosecutor Craig Missakian, the text reflected the intention to murder or attempt to murder the executive. Moreno-Gama has been charged with attempted destruction of property by explosives and possession of an unregistered firearm.

According to the investigation, he traveled from Texas to California with various incendiary devices, kerosene, and a lighter. The case arises in a context of increasing scrutiny on OpenAI and the use of artificial intelligence in national security matters. If found guilty, the accused could face sentences ranging from five to 20 years in prison for the explosives-related charges, in addition to up to 10 additional years for illegal possession of firearms.
