The leader of the center-right party Tisza, Péter Magyar, met with the country's president, Tamás Sulyok, at the Sándor Palace on Wednesday to coordinate the official schedule that will definitively end Viktor Orbán's uninterrupted 16-year mandate.

During the institutional meeting, President Sulyok conveyed to Magyar a fundamental news for national stability: the new government could be fully formed and operational during the first week of May. This timeline, considered particularly accelerated, responds to the will and pressure exerted by the opposition leader himself, who seeks for the transfer of power to occur as quickly as possible to start exercising his legislative functions without delays.

The magnitude of the change is reflected in the election results, where Magyar and his party obtained a two-thirds majority in the Hungarian parliament. This massive support gives the Tisza party the necessary strength to embark on a new institutional phase after more than a decade and a half of Orbán's party hegemony.

Beyond the significance of the agreements, the day left a curious anecdote that Magyar himself described on his social media as a "cinematic scene". In a video shared with his followers, the future leader is seen with President Sulyok admiring the views of Budapest from the palace. At that moment, Magyar spotted a solitary Viktor Orbán on the balcony of the neighboring Karmelita building, apparently focused on reading some papers.

This imminent change in power closes one of the longest political cycles in the European Union, positioning Péter Magyar as the main protagonist of the new direction Hungary will take starting next May.
