A shooting at the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, one of the main tourist attractions in Mexico City, left a Canadian woman dead on Monday and at least 13 people injured, as confirmed by official sources

The shooter reportedly took his own life.

The incident has raised great concern as it is a highly frequented place by national and international tourists. According to preliminary information, a man opened fire on several visitors and then took his own life on the spot. The injured were attended to by emergency services deployed in the area, while a security operation was activated.

Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families. She also informed that her government is in contact with the Canadian diplomatic representation and has ordered a thorough investigation of what happened. The Attorney General's Office confirmed that the aggressor, identified as Julio César Jasso Ramírez, 27 years old, acted alone. Authorities continue with the investigations to clarify the motive behind the shooting.
