In the broadcast, Israeli soldiers can be seen boarding at least one of the ships while at sea. The organization denounced through its official channels that "military boats are intercepting" the vessels "in broad daylight" as they sailed in international waters.

According to the flotilla's tracking system, the boats were about 80 nautical miles west of Cyprus at the time of the interception. The Global Sumud Flotilla is part of international initiatives seeking to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave. So far, Israeli authorities have not detailed the scope of the operation or the status of the intercepted crew members.
