In a video message released by the Kremlin, Putin emphasized that the strategic cooperation between both countries plays a "fundamental stabilizing role" on the international stage.
The president also stressed that Moscow and Beijing are not seeking alliances "against anyone" but rather promoting "peace and universal prosperity." Putin's visit to China comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump's trip to Beijing, against the backdrop of the delicate diplomatic balance that the Chinese government is trying to maintain between Washington and Moscow.
According to the Kremlin, Putin and Xi will discuss strengthening bilateral economic cooperation during their meetings, as well as address international and regional issues considered key for both governments. The visit also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Sino-Russian Friendship Treaty signed in 2001, an agreement that laid the foundation for the current strategic partnership between the two powers, which both parties consider essential amid global geopolitical tensions.
