J.R.R Tolkien's Middle-earth will have a new opportunity on our consoles. After the resounding failure in sales and reviews of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the community was clamoring for a great video game from one of the most successful franchises of the last 25 years. The rumors flooding social media finally became a reality: Warhorse Studios, creators of the acclaimed hyper-realistic RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance, will be in charge of developing an open-worldThe Lord of the Rings video game.
Although the plot and timeline of this story are unknown, the strategy the studio will follow is quite clear. Following the commercial success of Hogwarts Legacy in the world of Harry Potter, which demonstrated that fantastic stories can be executed well, as well as the need to redeem themselves from Gollum (the 2023 game with the worst reviews by the press on Metacritic), Embracer Group has decided to go all-in. Warhorse Studios will have a very clear goal: replicate their success in KCD 2 and give fans back a great video game that will make them remember the excellent Shadow of Mordor.
Through a statement on social media, the company announced that they were working on "an open-world RPG in Middle-earth", as well as "a new adventure of Kingdom Come".
Thus, in the coming years, fantasy fans will have a long list of video games to enjoy: The Elder Scrolls VI, The Witcher 4, Kingdom Come Deliverance 3, and the highly anticipated video game of The Lord of the Rings.
