According to the US military, Iranian forces launched missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, although none reached their targets. Two projectiles aimed at Kuwait disintegrated during flight, while the missiles launched towards Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini defense systems.
In response, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed attacks on an Iranian military installation on Qeshm Island, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Washington reported the downing of several Iranian drones allegedly heading towards US forces deployed in Kuwait.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have attacked the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and justified the offensive as a response to a US military action against a tanker attempting to reach Iranian territory despite the blockade imposed by Washington.
The escalation comes amid negotiations to expand a ceasefire related to the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. However, conflicting reports on the status of the talks increase uncertainty and fuel fears of further destabilization in the Middle East.
