This strike represents an unprecedented symbolic challenge by bringing the war to the Russian president's hometown just as he plans to address delegations from China and the so-called Global South. The vulnerability of key facilities located over a thousand kilometers from the border demonstrates that the Russian rear has ceased to be beyond the reach of Ukrainian forces. In fact, local media reminded the population of the strict prohibition on publishing images of the attacks, in an effort to maintain information shielding on the real impact of the war in the heart of Russia.
