Its capabilities explain much of its strategic relevance: it has a range of up to 3,000 kilometers, can carry an explosive payload of 1,150 kilograms, and offers a level of precision sufficient to attack high-value targets. In addition, its production is relatively fast, with an estimated capacity of up to 210 units per month, and its cost is considerably lower than equivalent systems developed by Western countries.
Thanks to these characteristics, the FP-5 Flamingo has played an increasingly important role in attacks against critical Russian infrastructures, especially refineries and military bases located far from the front line. However, for President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian high command, the true value of this missile goes beyond its technical performance. The project represents a symbol of Ukraine's ability to innovate and strengthen its defense industry in the midst of war. Designed largely within the country and manufactured mostly with national resources, the FP-5 demonstrates that Kyiv not only resists the Russian invasion but also develops its own tools to respond to it and face the future with greater confidence.
