According to official reports issued by the U.S. armed forces, the incident occurred during a classified as routine operation at Edwards Air Force Base.

The accident occurred exactly at 11:20 local time (17:20 GMT), just moments after the aircraft left the runway at Edwards airfield. The military base, strategically located in Kern County, is situated approximately 200 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles. Various images captured by witnesses near the military facility showed an imposing and dense column of black smoke rising from the area where the aircraft crashed.

Edwards Air Force Base officials confirmed with regret that the eight military personnel on board lost their lives and that, following initial inspections by rescue teams, it has been determined that no one survived the impact. The base's own emergency response services immediately moved to the scene to intervene and secure the perimeter. Defense authorities have stated that the military installation will provide updates and more detailed information as technical investigations progress and data becomes available to the public.

The aircraft involved in the disaster, the B-52 Stratofortress, is an iconic long-range bomber developed by Boeing. This aircraft originally entered service in the 1950s and continues to be a key component of the U.S. military's air power. The B-52 is known for its versatility and ability to carry both conventional and nuclear weaponry over transcontinental distances. Historically, this model has played key roles in globally significant conflicts, ranging from the Vietnam War to various military operations during the Iran-Iraq War. This tragic event represents a significant loss for the military community at Edwards Air Force Base.
