Concern and fear are some of the feelings expressed by the Venezuelans contacted by EL MUNDO after the two strong earthquakes that on Wednesday night to Thursday, Spanish time, and with a margin of just one minute, have shaken their country.
The earthquakes have had their epicenter in the surroundings of Morón, on the coast, have mainly affected La Guaira, but have caused damage in a wide area of the country, including the capital, Caracas.
Samir Jiménez lives on the outskirts of Caracas, in Guarenas, and had left his house when the earthquake started. "I had gone out to take someone and stopped to buy bread when the earthquake started. People started screaming and I grabbed the car to go home quickly because my mom was alone. I live on the top floor of a five-story building and the apartments on the ground floor and the penthouse are the ones that suffered the most damage being at the base and at the top of the building. All the neighbors in the area are in the parking lots and inside the cars. We will spend the night here waiting for the authorities to come and inspect the building. We have already felt some aftershocks while inside the cars and they move from side to side with each aftershock."
María Magdalena Capote speaks from Caracas (La Tahona) "We were a group of friends in a house with a pool when the earthquake started. The pool started to have waves, the water was spilling out of the pool. The area where I was located is between mountains and you can hear a noise like thunder among the mountains. Smoke was coming out of a mountain in front. I live in another area of Caracas, in El Paraíso. And when I arrived home, the building had cracks, the fridge in my house moved a meter and a half from its place. A bookshelf was on the floor. I tried to call my mother but at that moment communications were impossible. It was moments of great fear and anguish."
