This operation, carried out through a combination of drones and missiles, aims to isolate the peninsula and fracture the Kremlin's logistical lines in a territory under Russian control since its annexation in 2014.

Given the severity of the damage, the Moscow-imposed governor, Sergei Aksyonov, has formally declared a regional state of emergency throughout Crimea. This legal measure seeks to mobilize resources promptly to alleviate the severe fuel shortage and constant power cuts suffocating the region. The situation has reached a critical point where authorities have been forced to ban the sale of gasoline to civilians and schedule power outages, directly impacting the power grid during the summer tourist season.

The bridge attack and various power plants are part of a larger campaign. The Russian Ministry of Defense recently reported the largest drone attack of the entire war, claiming to have intercepted 660 long-range devices in a single night over 12 regions, including Crimea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov. According to Russian sources, in June alone, a record number of drone interceptions were reported, surpassing 9,700 Ukrainian drones.

From Kiev, President Volodymyr Zelensky has framed these actions within a "40-day influence operation" led by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The purpose of this strategy is to exert unbearable pressure on Moscow to force an end to the conflict, demonstrating Ukraine's ability to strike strategic targets from long distances, including refineries, oil depots, and chemical plants. Meanwhile, Western analysts point out that this capability to inflict considerable damage occurs while Russian advances are practically stalled.
