The flight LA2399 between Montevideo and Lima, which took off on Thursday morning, had to make an emergency landing after experiencing an engine failure caused by a bird strike. In response to this situation, the pilots followed safety protocols and returned to the Carrasco International Airport.
The plane is currently at the airport, where the necessary checks are being carried out to determine the extent of the damage. The Air Force stated in a press release that "the situation was managed in accordance with operational safety protocols".
Fuel dumping over water
The aircraft, which experienced the incident during takeoff after ingesting a bird into the right engine, immediately activated emergency protocols. As reported by the Uruguayan media Telenoche, the pilots had to dump fuel over water to reach the appropriate weight and ensure a safe landing.
Radar maps of the flight path show how the plane was performing holding patterns (circles) off the coast of the Uruguayan capital before landing, with an approximate air time of two hours.
