According to the President of the Maine House of Representatives, Ryan Fecteau, the shooting took place during an ICE operation, while Independent Senator Angus King explained that the Secretary of Homeland Security informed him that the agent opened fire after the driver attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon against federal agents.

Authorities also stated that the officers were in the area to execute an arrest warrant, although the deceased individual was not the initial target of the operation.

Security footage released by Associated Press shows the moments following the shooting, with a white vehicle stopped by a police SUV and several agents removing the driver's body.

This incident occurs amidst the tightening of immigration policies promoted by the Trump Administration and just a week after another incident involving the use of lethal force by ICE agents, in addition to months of protests against the increase in immigration raids in Maine.
