The theft occurred during the night of March 22 to 23, when the thieves gained access to the museum and took three paintings by some of the great names in art history: Tasse et plat de cerises by Paul Cezanne; Les Poisson by Pierre-Auguste Renoir; and Odalisque sur la Terrasse by Henri Matisse.
The combined value of the three works is estimated at over nine million euros.
Images released by the Carabinieri show the moment of the museum break-in, as well as the escape of the perpetrators after taking the paintings.
After months of investigation and various checks, the agents of the Provincial Command of Parma and the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit managed to locate and recover the three works.
The investigation remains open to clarify all the details of the artwork theft and identify those responsible.
