Both managed to reach safety as the waters completely surrounded the car.

A video released by the Hawaii National Guard shows the couple on the vehicle, surrounded by strong water currents. Shortly after, emergency teams managed to rescue them as the car was swept away by the force of the flood.

Lala, which had previously reached hurricane status, weakened on Sunday to become a tropical storm. However, its intense rains and strong winds caused significant damage on the Big Island.

Authorities reported that around a hundred homes were ripped from their foundations due to the storm's force. Additionally, a large part of the state remained under alert for possible sudden and destructive floods.

The situation also affected the power supply. Over 200,000 households and businesses were left without electricity at noon, including almost two-thirds of the Big Island's customers.

Tropical storm warnings were extended to Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau, due to the risk of further flooding.
